Birds and Special Animals

The Special Animals department is led by Gineke Peetsold. She treats all 'Special Animals'. These are birds, reptiles but also the small mammals, such as rabbits, hedgehogs and chinchillas.

Due to the many possibilities in our hospital, we can provide good care to these special animals. From intensive care in the uptake, because the recording team is also trained in the care of the special animals, to diagnostics such as a CT scan, blood tests and ultrasounds. Both Marc and Gineke have extensive experience in the anesthesia and surgery of these special animals.

Before Gineke joined our hospital, she completed a two-year internship at the Department of Special Animals at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Utrecht. Marc Maas has years of practical experience in treating (predatory) birds and especially reptiles. The team is complemented by Yvette, a vet nurse who has special interest in Special Animals and is proud owner of many species.

They are available not only for referrals but also for practical questions. If you want to refer a patient to the department, it is useful to inform the owner that it is handy to bring fresh, undried faeces from their animal.
